June was born in Salina, Kansas to Karl D. and Helen M. Anderson. She was a student at Salina High School before attending Marymount College where she received an Honors Scholarship. She later attended George Washington University where she was inducted into the Delphi Honorary Sorority for Outstanding Women on Campus and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.
A woman of great faith, June was confirmed at St. Paul’s Rock Creek Episcopal Church and where she went on to serve as a member of the Women’s Board. She also served on the Young Adult Board at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
June married Robert J. Baker in Austin, Texas on May 29th, 1976 in the Mabel Davis Rose Garden at Zilker Park. Together they had a wonderful time traveling and spent much time in Ouray and Denver, Colorado.
In her professional life, June served in many roles, including Secretary to the Chief of the Air Force Casualty Branch at the Pentagon, Assistant Comptroller of Research at George Washington University, Legal Secretary to Ras Redwine and George A. Stephen in Austin, Texas, and Property Supervisor at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas.
June is survived by her husband Robert J. Baker; her daughter Sheryl Andrews Neal (Lt. Col. (Ret), USAF Res) and husband Marlyn of Hockley, Texas; her son, Robert L. Andrews III, and wife Patricia Gerling Andrews of Austin, Texas; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. June is also survived by her niece and godchild, Randi Ravenburg Warrington (Steve) of Austin, Texas; niece Susan Roberts (Roland) of Colorado Springs; and her “other daughter” Diane Hernandez Holt of Rancho Viejo, Texas.
The cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
June’s ashes will be taken to the mountains of Ouray, Colorado at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the USMC Toys for Tots Charity.
