Grace Doris Scott

Grace Doris Scott, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep after visiting with family on April 2nd, 2022. Grace was born on June 18th,1929, to Erna Steger Bohls and Jesse Bohls Sr. of Pflugerville, TX. She was one of seven children. They lived on a farm on Jesse Bohls Sr. Road.

She started her schooling in a one room schoolhouse supported by the surrounding farming communities. She went on to attend the Pflugerville Independent School District which was formally organized in 1936 and graduated high school.

After graduation she headed to Austin and lived at a boarding house. She worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety. She was noted for her accurate and fast filing skills. She soon was head of her own group of clerks. At lunchtime she could be found either strolling Congress Ave or picnicking on the Capitol grounds with coworkers.

On April 11, 1953, Grace married Wilbern Scott of South Austin at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville. They lived in San Diego, California until Wilbern was discharged from the Navy in 1954. They moved to Port Arthur, Texas, while Wilbern attended Radio school and had one child there. Then in 1955 they moved to Austin, Texas, and had two more children. Grace and Wilbern joined St. John’s Lutheran Church where her Uncle Clarence Bohls was the founding pastor. Wilbern and Grace were happily married for 57 years.

Grace enjoyed watching squirrels in her yard and birdwatching, especially cardinals. She was passionate about helping friends, family and teaching children. When St John's opened up a child care center, she started teaching preschool there. She loved teaching the children and they loved her. She worked there for the rest of her working career and retired.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Wilbern and son-in-law Jeffery McGuire. Grace is survived by daughter Beverly Stein and her husband Larry; by son Keith Scott and his wife Marsha; by daughter Carol McGuire; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2022. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm at St John's Lutheran Church, 409 W Ben White Blvd, Austin, TX. Interment will be Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Forest Oaks Cemetery.
