Gladys Schultz Gresser passed on March 6th, 2022. She was born to parents Olga and Herbert Schultz on December 2nd, 1925 in Willow Springs, Texas. They lived in a farmhouse across their fields from her maternal grandparents, the Heinsohns. She went to high school in Fayetteville, Texas. She also attended school in Houston where she lived with her Aunt Erna.
At Fayetteville High School she met her husband to be, Donald Ellis Gresser. After his time in the war serving with the Marines as a Naval corpsman, they married on April 7th, 1946 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas.
Soon after, their children Rick and Diana were born. They lived in a garage apartment initially, then soon after in a small home that Don and his father built. They moved once more before settling in on Aggie Lane where they lived for nearly 60 years.
She loved family. She and Don were wonderful grandparents. She was passionate about gardening and made her home beautiful with plants. She and Don fed the native birds daily. There were always birds to listen to in their backyard.
Gladys and Don loved to travel and made trips to Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand, Western Europe, Spain, Portugal and many places in the United States.
She worked for the City of Austin for many years and then Austin National Bank as Assistant Vice President. Gladys was a devoted Lutheran and served her community and church as such.
She was preceded in death by parents Herbert and Olga Schultz; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Dorothy Schultz, and recently their son Mark; brother, Arlen Schultz; sister-in-law Eleanor and husband Jesse Bruton; son Richard (Rick) Gresser; daughter Diana Williamson Almaraz, and recently, sister-in-law Grace Gresser Bruce.
Gladys is survived by grandson Steven (Steve) Gresser and wife Trisha and their children Kate and Gavin of Austin; granddaughter Regina (Gina) Rahn and husband Scott of Pflugerville and their sons Kyle and Justin; sister-in-law Franny Schultz and her children Mike and Laura of Orlando, Florida; nephews and nieces, Betty Schultz Gwinn, Kenny Schultz, Doug Schultz, Margie Smith, Gwen Mead, Jesse Bruton, Jr; brother-in-law Lelton (Bob) Bruce and sons, Bobby and Jimmy of Bellville, Texas.
A graveside for Gladys will be held Monday, March 14, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden-Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, TX 78660.
