November 8, 1925. She was the fourth oldest of fourteen children (5 brothers and 8 sisters). Gladys
departed this life on Saturday, February 8, 2020, 7:05 pm at St. David’s Hospital, Austin, TX. She
survived by three sisters, Beverly J. Holmes, Mary E. Carr, and Georgia Rodwell‐Brookes . Gladys also survived by a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great‐great grandchildren (totaling a hundred plus), family members, and friends.
Gladys was united in holy matrimony to the late Sam Ware and Matthew J. Ellison Sr., to these unions,
eleven children were born (7 boys and 4 girls), Abdul Mohamed (Perry Ware), Roland Ware, Sandra
Ware‐Fresch, Samuel Ware Jr., Alfred Ware, Kenneth Ware, Helen Ware‐Ellison, Joel Ware, Beverly
Ware, Matthew Ellison Jr., and Ellen Ellison‐Westra.
She worked hard all of her life retiring from the Internal Revenue Service twice, at age seventy two
then eighty two. Gladys was an avid disciple of Christ where prayer was priority one of every day. Her
church affiliation goes back to childhood where she was baptized then saved and remained a faithful
church member until she was called home.
Gladys was gifted with a passion to love all that touched many hearts in her lifetime, not only the
eleven children she raised, but family and friends. She was blessed with a loving heart that rubbed off
on all that got know her as Gladys, Momma or Little Momma. Gladys loved to dance; her dancing was
so entertaining for many years, you can only smile or laugh and hope you can stay up with her.
She was a Master Chef in the kitchen that loved to cook for all, she always fed her company, families,
church members, and friends with the best soul food that was so good, it always made you want
more.
She was preceded in death by her mother Georgia M. Rodwell and father James Rodwell Sr.; two
husbands Sam Ware and Matthew J. Ellison Sr.; five sisters Francis Rodwell, Minnette Beacham, Willa D. Deas, Winna B. Thomas, and Alice C. Ellens; and four brothers Ronald Rodwell, George Rodwell, Alfred Rodwell, Hubert Rodwell, and James Rodwell.
