Gilbert played football in high school where he was given the nickname of “Machine” as he led the team to become District Champions. He later attended SWTJC in Uvalde, Texas for two years. He moved to Austin in the mid 1980’s and has lived here since.
He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Gonzales Ramirez; his son, Michael Ramirez; his daughter, Anastacia Ramirez?? ; his mother, Rafaela Ramirez; 5 brothers; 5 sisters; 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Monday, the 19th of March 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at seven o’clock in the evening on Monday.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 20th of March, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
