George Neville Stephenson was born February 18, 1918 in Austin, Texas and passed away on March 7, 2015. He was the fourth child of William Henry and Loma Keesee Stephenson. He is preceded in death by a son, James H. Stephenson; brothers Harold, Earl and Clyde; and sister, Doris Stephenson Wright.
George attended school in Austin and was employed by Brown and Root to work on the Marshall Ford Dam. In 1942, he was transferred to the WWII emergency shipyard in Houston. In 1955, he was employed by Harris County at the Washburn Tunnel, where he retired as Assistant Superintendent after 30 years.
On July 6, 1949, George married Kathryn Pettijohn in Houston, Texas. They have one son, Richard George Stephenson, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1988, George and Kathryn moved to Buda, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin and Concordant Bible Class.
George is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his son, Rick Stephenson and his wife, Nancy, and their daughter, Elena Mireille; son, Michael Wayne Stephenson and his wife, Sharon; granddaughter, Sherry House, her husband, Tracy, and great granddaughters Amanda and Kristie.
George was kind and loving to his family and friends. He looked for and found good in all he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Cheerful and optimistic, George could daily be seen working in his yard or around the house even at an advanced age. He loved travel, playing "42", gardening and visiting with friends.
We loved him greatly and he will be intensely missed.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
