Geof is survived by his devoted spouse, Margarita Vera Hartwig, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Valerie Cabrera, and her husband Tony, along with his granddaughters Julia and Sophia Cabrera. Additionally, he leaves behind his stepson, Andres Vera Martinez, and his wife Na, along with his granddaughter MeiLan, and grandson Pablo Martinez.
Geof is remembered by his brother David Hartwig and his wife Marsha, who were a constant source of support. He was an uncle to nieces Jennifer, Lisbeth, Tina, and Tiffani, as well as nephews Troy and Jonathan. Geof's cherished memories will be carried on by his family and friends who were touched by his presence.
Geof graduated from McCallum High School in Austin, Texas, and furthered his education at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Geof served his country with honor and bravery, enlisting in the Air Force in November 1966. He dedicated himself to the military, serving until August 1970.
Professionally, Geof found success in sales and management in the industrial motors and food industries. His expertise contributed significantly to these fields, and his work ethic was admired by colleagues and friends alike.
Geof found solace and inspiration in the beauty of nature. He marveled at the gardens in his backyard, finding peace and tranquility in the wonders of creation. Geof became a Christian later in life and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
In his leisure time, Geof indulged in various hobbies. Gourmet cooking allowed him to express his creativity and passion for culinary arts. He had a keen eye for antiques and enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. Boating provided him with a sense of freedom and adventure. Geof stayed well-informed about world political and economic events, always eager to expand his knowledge. Additionally, he had an interest in small arms, appreciating their craftsmanship and historical significance.
Geoffrey Oliver Hartwig, or Popo, as he was affectionately known, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Buchanan West Baptist Church on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM. A light meal will be provided after. The church address is 850 Lillian Dean, Buchanan Dam, TX 78609
The graveside service will be at Cook Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The address is 6300 West William Cannon Dr. Austin, TX 78749
After the inurnment, family and friends are invited to gather at 8900 Lantana Way Austin, TX 78744 for visitation and a light meal.
