Life is a balance. Sometimes you hold on and sometimes you let go. Today we had to let go of Gary Lynn Green but his memories will live on forever. Gary, age 70, died March 9, 2017 in Austin, Texas. Gary was a life-long Democrat and union member of the Boilermakers Local 531 in Amarillo and Pipefitters Local 286 in Austin.
If you knew Gary, you knew that he loved life, his family and his friends. He faced his illness with cancer with courage and grace. He did not want to say cancer was a battle. He handled it with strength, tenacity, and love of life.
Gary was preceded in death by his sons Phillip James Green and Gary Lynn Green Jr. No children were loved more than these two, along with his son Larry Green.
Gary is forever loved by his wife of 46 years, Dorcas Ann Green. He is survived by his wife and his son, Larry Donovan Green, his brother Don Green, his sister Cindy Whitfield of Amarillo and daughters-in-law Michelle Teats and Wendy Green. His grandchildren Gary Green III, Landry Green, and Codi Green loved him dearly. His sisters-in-law Jan King, Elaine Lacy, and Lana Green loved him like a brother. Gary loved all his nieces and nephews Denise Cross, Brandy King, Megan Keihl, Shamarah Cagle, Lacey Neff, John Whitfield, Brent Green, Christopher Green, and Kimberly Green and enjoyed being their Uncle Gary. Randall Lemke and Joey Teats will always hold their Gary in highest regard and love.
A memorial to celebrate Gary's life will be held in Amarillo at a future date and in Austin on March 22, 2017 at Umlauf Gardens at 5:00 p.m.
Our family is so grateful to Texas Oncology, Dr. Jason Melear, Dr. Srivani Thatikonda and Nurse Kristen Bruggermann for their excellent care. He always knew that they were doing the best they could for him.
Memorials in Gary's name may be made to the Christi Center, whose support helped Dorcas & Gary with the loss of their son 13 years ago. The address is 2306 Hancock Drive Austin, Texas 78756.
