She was educated in the Austin public school system and later was graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she was awarded Baccalaureate degrees in mathematics and music and a Master of Music degree. She studied piano beginning at age 7 and became an accomplished pianist later extending that talent to young students by private piano lessons. Selecting the use of her middle name, Eleanor chose in college to concentrate her music studies in organ and studied first with Cochrane Penick and then with Dean E. W. Doty. After concluding her studies at the University, she later became an Assistant Professor in the Music Department and was loaned by the Department to the then fledgling Department of Communications to be the music director initially for KUT and then KLRU. She continued in that capacity until her retirement from the University.
Having succeeded in her career as an organist, Eleanor distinguished herself in recitals and in service as organist to several churches, including First United Methodist Church, Central Presbyterian Church and Central Christian Church. She retired as organist for St. Louis King of France Catholic Church where she had become a member and where she had found great happiness and made many friends.
Eleanor was conscientious in all her commitments, devoted to both her career, her colleagues and her friends. Her legacy will be remembered and treasured by many.
