During his service for the U.S. Army Ernest rose to the rank of Sergeant (SP5) and did his American duty by enlisting and serving a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Ernest was stationed at such bases as Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, HI and Fort Hood in Killeen, TX. Following his service to the United States of America, Ernest lived in Gatesville, TX and Stephenville, TX where he worked as an electrician on various construction projects including the building of Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, TX and South Texas Project Nuclear Power Plant (STP) in Bay City, TX. He lived the last 18 years of his life as a resident of Austin, Texas, where he spent his life as a selfless and hardworking man, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. This included but was not limited to working part time at Wal-Mart where he enjoyed helping and putting a smile on customer’s faces, or just simply spending a warm Texas day outside reading a book.
Ernest leaves behind; a wife of forty two years Marlene May Dale-Evans age 64, a daughter Marsha Lynn Evans-Massey age 35, and a son Leonard Allen Evans age 28. Along with four grandchildren; Michelle Nicole Massey age 16, Tyler Wayne Massey age 13, Jonathan Wayne Massey age 7, and Lilly Nicole Evans age 3.
Ernest will never truly know how many people he meant so much to and how many truly cared about him. “No one in this world can ever truly know this, only those of us who are left behind to bear the burden of having to notify the people and the world of their passing can truly see how one person can mean so much to so many” -Leonard
A memorial service will be held for Ernest on Saturday January 19th, 2013 at 10AM at Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Anderson Mill Rd in Austin, TX.
This service is open all who knew him and wish to pay their final respects to him.
