Eleanor Long Powell passed away on March 13, 2021.
E.Long was born in Washington, D.C and spent her early years as an Army Brat until her parents retired in Texas when she was in her early teens. She graduated from Killeen High School and then Southwest Texas State University, before settling in Austin for the rest of her life. She had a long career with the state of Texas and donated her time to charities that celebrated recycling, conservation and nature. She was a regular blood donor and faithful contributor to Austin’s public radio and television stations. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, bird watching, keeping Austin weird, and she loved her cats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Beverley Evans Powell and Eleanor Bishop Powell.
She is survived by her bothers Beverley E. Powell Jr. (Linda) of Bedford, TX and Harry C. Powell of Bellingham, WA as well as her sister Anne P. Brooks of Newport News, VA. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and her beloved cat Mr. Briggs.
