
My brother, Fred, and I have many happy memories growing up on Chiappero Trail down the street from the Nichols. Our families had so many connections, starting with the neighborhood and including church, school, volunteer activities, etc. One of my most favorite memories is when we adopted a very young orphaned baby goat ("Frisky") from the farm and helped her off to a good start. It was a sad day returning her a year later, but that was part of the plan. My condolences to you all - Doug, Carol and James, as you mourn the passing of your wonderful mom. We are all so fortunate to have known her.

I'm so sorry to find out about this a bit late. I always enjoyed talking to your mom and fighting our battle with our common neighbor. She was such a trooper after the stroke, loved hearing about her travels. I am blessed to have gotten to know her, She was such a contributor to the neighborhood. 
May you be blessed with many happy memories.




l will miss Mrs Nichols deeply but the memories and love for her i will cherish forever,she was a very fun loving,giving lady that my family and I were so fortunate to know for 7 years.  She didn't let her stroke get in the way for her upbeat spirit and enthusiasm she had for life and family.  We had some great times ln Rockport sitting on her porch an on the pier,going to Dallas ,Okalahoma, San Antonio, Houston to the races

Doug-  I was sorry to learn of your mom's passing.  She certainly had and lived a full life.  My memory of her is just that she was always so happy, had a playful fun way about her, and you simply knew she enjoyed time with the people she was around.   Peace to you, Steph, Carol & James. Aunt Dorothy was a giant in our family and a great friend to me, as well,  particularly when I was a student at UT and needed a refuge.   She and Uncle Doug always made time and had a good meal ready for me.     She had the best outlook on life and made everyone around feel some joy for just having been around her great spirit for a moment.      Her life was Blessed and she was a Blessing to us all.   



I remember trips as a child going to Aunt Dorothy's and Uncle Doug's ranch and seeing horses and goats and other animals. It was always fun. What I think most about her was her upbeat spirit and enthusiasm for life. I also appreciated the close relationship she had with my mother, her sister.



I spoke with my daughter Lindsey tonight sharing memories of Aunt Dorothy.  We always enjoyed our trips to Austin as kids because she planned fun and interesting things to do.  She and Uncle Doug went out of their way to be sure the kids and adults were having a good time.  Aunt Dorothy moved through life with purpose, determination and pure enjoyment of life and family.  Such a positive person with a legion of friends and family who admired her and enjoyed spending time with her.  Love you and although you are not on this earth you live on in our hearts and memories.

Aunt Dorothy was so great at making every visit fun and unusual.  She had such a gift for creating wholesome memories during my childhood and for our children.  We loved trips to Toy Joy and the Land!! She was always involved and interested in community and serving - an inspiration! I was blessed to share her birthday, her name and Tri Delta!  We will miss her but she will live in our hearts! 



Our neighborhood will not be the same with Dorothy.  We admired her spunk and always enjoyed visiting with her.  We will miss her.   



I heard of Dorothy's passing through a mutual distant cousin of mine, Judith Morris.  She sounds much like my wife Carol's mother who passed away on October 6 in Houston at age 89.  I was glad to have known my new mother-in-law, and now wish I had known Dorothy.  All my love and condolences go to her family, despite the distance in miles and relationship.



I'm so very, very sorry to learn of Dorothy's passing.  Although we only met fairly late in life, the several times Dorothy and I spent with each other were so wonderful and I have such fond memories.  Dorothy had lived less than a mile from my mother for years and neither even knew of each other...Mother would have loved her too.   Dorothy shared her ranch, Taxes the bull, and target shooting with a BB gun with my two young grandsons when they came to visit Austin when each was about 10 or 12 years old--a totally new and novel experience for both city boys.  We shared our genealogy records with each other, she met some of our other Faulkner cousins with me for lunches in Austin, Round Rock, and even once in College Station.  Lovely memories of this very, very spunky, generous, outstanding and loving lady, and I'm sorry not to have helped make more.  She was a true light in the world!  My prayers are with you all.



Dearest Dorothy,  you will be greatly missed, as will the example you provided for a giving and abundant life!  Our sympathy to the entire family.  The Doug Hyde Family and Myra Hyde



Carol, I am so very sorry to hear of the death of your mom.  She was a wonderful woman, and a great example of living life to the fullest.  It's obvious that her love of animals in general, and horses in specific lives on in you.  What great memories!   You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.



Carol:  I now know where you get your boundless energy.  You come from good stock!  I am very sorry for your loss.
