Dorothy Doss, 86, of Austin, Texas and formerly of Temple, Texas died Thursday afternoon, January 26th, at her residence in the Westminster Health Care Center where she lived with her husband, Noble Webster Doss. Born July 13, 1919, Dorothy was the daughter of Frank and Mabel Burwitz of Temple, Texas. She attended Temple High School, Temple Junior College, Mary Hardin-Baylor College and graduated from the University of Texas with honors. She taught school in Hay Branch, Temple and Austin. In 1941 she married Noble, her husband of 65 years, while he was a student and accomplished football player at the University of Texas. After traveling with Noble during his service with the United States Navy during World War II, they settled once again in Austin. Following the birth of their son, Noble Jr., she became an active member of the Austin community, working as an administrative assistant for the Texas State Legislature for a number of years. She was also a renowned member of the St. David's Hospital volunteer corps and worked in other area organizations including the Junior Helping Hand Home in Austin. Family members include her husband, Noble, and her son, Noble Jr., along with her daughter-in-law, Sharon Liston Doss. She was also blessed with two granddaughters, Jessica Liston Doss, of Washington, D.C. and Amanda Doss Holt and her husband, Greg of Austin, Texas. Services for Dorothy will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John McMullen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 North Lamar in Austin.
