My dear mother, Sis, age 90, died June 11, 2014. She was born in Austin, Texas, on December 12, 1923, at the home of her parents on Deep Eddy Avenue.
Sis may be the last of the Deep Eddy "Rats", a band of folks who lived and gathered at the pool. She graduated from Austin High School, became a bride June 14, 1941 and my mother in 1943. Her interests, beyond her family, were swimming, golf, bridge, and casino games. Her love of golf lasted her entire life. As a matter of fact, in her golfing days she never lost a match in the 19th hole. It was there that her great athletic abilities shone!
We shall miss her daily. Her lessons have been learned well. She was a very loving and supportive mother who did her best to lead by example, the way to a meaningful and productive life.
Our home was a popular destination for relatives and friends throughout the years. My parents were very gregarious and delighted in entertaining their guests in their home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George A. and Celeste S. Rowley, her brothers, George, Tom, Bobby and Jack, and her sister Mary. My father, Wylie Oliver "Pete" Edgar died September 22, 2010. She is survived by me, Thomas Michael Edgar, my wife, Susan Meason Edgar and our daughters, Emily Bakunas (husband Greg) and Blair Doran (husband Jim). She has two great-grandsons, Teddy Doran and Meason Bakunas. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law Lovie Edgar and Nancy Rowley and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Building Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive in Austin, would be appreciated.
I want to give special thanks and praise to the Summit at Westlake Hills for their care of Sis the past 3 years. I am also grateful for the folks at Brookdale Hospice.
