Nov 7, 1949 – Jan 15, 2024
Don passed away peacefully on Monday January 15, 2024, with his wife of 42 years and his daughter Lindsay by his side. He passed listening to his favorite music by Dean Martin and a song from one of his favorite movies, “My Pony and Me”. He was a man of few words, so to keep with his wishes, this will be short. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the US Navy on the USS Eldorado from 1969-1972. He kept the love of the seas throughout his life. He worked in the electronics industry as a supervisor and then finished his carrier as a material planner working with many people he called friends. When he retired in 2015, he began cruising with his wife who fell in love with the seas too. They cruised 25 times in 10 years. His family was most important to him and having big family gatherings and crawfish boils were his very favorite things to do. He loved his family more than anything and the times he spent with them, he talked about often. They gave him so much joy. He raised a total of 4 children, 3 boys and a girl and from them came 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
His passing was too soon, but we can’t choose what life has in store for us. His mantra as he struggled with complications from cancer was, a line from a song he heard by Jimmy Buffett:
“Breath in, breath out, move on.”
He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every minute, every day. Don is survived by his loving wife Nita Thompson, his children, Lindsay Thompson, Barry Thompson, Ted Mynyk and Andrew Mynyk and sister, Beverly Morman.
Always loving, Always loved
