Demetrio Reynero “Chico” Medina passed away in his home on October 3, 2024, in Austin, Texas. He was 87. Demetrio was born on December 22, 1936, in Del Valle, Texas to his parents Margarito & Faustina Medina.
In his childhood, he grew up with migrant families and traveled to many States with his family. He loved cars and started working at various body shops repairing vehicles. He then went on to work for Cars America and Austin Auto Exchange as a porter where he made many friends. He also had to opportunity to be a tow truck driver. He worked in this field until his retirement in 1999.
Demetrio had many hobbies growing up. He liked attending wrestling matches and watching it on television. Baseball was his favorite he liked the Texas Rangers and never missed a game. In his spare time, he was a mechanic always working on a vehicle and helping others with their vehicle. On the weekends he would take the family riding around the countryside to check out some great scenery. He was big on playing jokes on all his kids. He owned a 1977 4-door, Ford, LTD, Red, with a black top, and would spend hours, washing, and waxing his ride. His wife Gloria always said, “He loves that car more than me”.
Demetrio was a family man. He married his first wife Rita Rodriguez until her death in July 1974. He then met and married the love of his life Gloria Rivera on June 10, 1983, they have been together for more than 50 years. He is survived by his wife and his children: Son Demetrio Medina Jr. and wife Virginia, Son David Medina, Daughter Delores “Lola” Medina, Daughter Linda Silva Husband Edward, Daughter Lorri Medina and Husband Jonathan, Son Rudy Medina, Daughter Gloria Richardson and Husband Phil, Son Thomas Silva and Wife Tresha, Daughter Cindy Allen and Husband Jim. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 41 great - grandchildren and 1 great -great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents Margarito & Faustina Medina, his four sisters Felipa Medina, Tina Medina, Maria Medina, and Candelaria Medina, and two brothers Magdaleno Medina and Serapio Medina
A celebration of life and viewing will be held on October 9th at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749. The viewing will start at 10am with the celebration of life at 11am to follow.
Demetrio Medina has elected to be cremated.
