Preacher served 20 years in the Air Force and retired at the rank of Technical Sergeant in 1985.
Upon retirement Preacher worked various jobs at several different companies as a supply technician, including a stint overseas in Oman where he supported the Gulf War as a contract employee. He also worked several years in private security in the Austin community and in local hospitals. Preacher retired again in 2008.
He was passionate about politics and history. He loved to sing, draw, and write and in his younger years was a gifted athlete who participated in many sports and enjoyed dancing. Preacher loved competition. He was a Mason and a Knight of Saint Peter Claver. Holy Cross Catholic Church was his home parish since 1988.
Preacher is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Meadows Sr., mother, Mary Barber; brother, James; and sister, Patricia. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joann; and his daughters Tasha Golson of Ocean Springs, MS, and Tyree Meadows of Austin, TX. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Cavitte of Parsons, KS; Marion Larkins of Snellville, GA; Wraine Meadows of Tulsa, OK; Brenda Tyler of Hemet, CA; Byron Barber of Parsons, KN; and Carolyn Barber of Oswego, KN.
We would like to thank Hospice of Austin staff, Seton Brackenridge Family support and staff, Interim Healthcare, The Austin Wound Care Clinic, and his primary care physician, Dr. Kelly Alberda.
Visitation will be from twelve o’clock until two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday 4TH of January 2014, followed by a Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1610 E 11th Street, Austin, Texas 78702.
