He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Breed Johnson; his daughter and son-in-law Bev and Raymund Kuenast; his son Rusty Johnson; and son and daughter-in-law Clay and Suzanne Johnson, all of Austin. He is also survived by his greatest joy, his grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan and Lily Kuenast, Caleb, Grant and Will Johnson, and Patricia, Avery and Caroline Johnson.
Curtis was proud to be a native Austinite. He graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Longhorn Band. He had a successful career as a Professional Engineer, serving as Director of the Water and Wastewater Department of the City of Austin. He moved on to many years as a consultant, and later with the Texas Water Development Board.
Curtis was also proud of his Swedish heritage and was a life-long member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. He was raised in the city, but loved spending time at the family's Someday Ranch in Dripping Springs, TX. He loved to visit with people, and people loved him! He especially loved family gatherings, where he would remember how he was related to countless cousins, and frequenting favorite dining spots such as El Azteca, TopNotch, Railroad BBQ and the Oak Creek Café in Dripping Springs.
The Johnson family would like to acknowledge how blessed we were by the incredible doctors and staff at North Austin Medical Center ICU, who showed great care and respect for Curtis and the family.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
A private burial service will be followed by a memorial service on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 200 W. Anderson Lane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Settlement Home, 1600 Peyton Gin Road, Austin 78758, or to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 200 W. Anderson Lane, Austin 78752.
