Craig was born on September 5, 1961 in Portland, Michigan, in the county of Ionia to Dale Richard Hutchinson and Nancy Marie Hutchinson. After graduating high school, Craig received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State and served the Travis County Sheriff’s Office for over 31 years as a corrections officer, patrol deputy, motor officer, academy & firearms training instructor, detective, and patrol shift supervisor; he was 42 days from retirement. Craig was a man driven by his beliefs and a code of fairness. His true passion was helping and mentoring officers and deputies at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. There was never an instant that he would not devote his own equipment and time to help anyone who asked, and he was honored to have the opportunity to do so.
Craig Thomas Hutchinson is survived by his wife Vikki, daughters Amy and Katie Hutchinson, Karyn and Crystal McKinney, son James McKinney, grandchildren Connally and Ava Gray Christian, his mother Nancy Marie Hutchinson, brothers Mark and Chris Hutchinson, nieces, nephews, friends and the entire Travis County Sheriff’s family.
Visitation will be held August 1, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX. The funeral service will take place August 2, 2016 at10:00 am at Shoreline Church, 15201 Burnet Road Austin to be followed by a graveside service at Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 IH 35, Pflugerville, TX. Memorial donations may be made to the Sheriff’s Memorial and Benevolent Society of Travis County.
