1stLt Connor Michael McKim United States Marine Corps, 25, passed away on November 22, 2023, at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, from injuries sustained from an auto accident. Connor was born September 15, 1998, in Rowlett, Texas, to Michael McKim and Rashelle (Sawyer) McKim. Connor graduated from Lake Travis High School in 2017. He received a congressional nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation in 2021. Upon graduation, Connor was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and attended flight school.
Connor led a very active life. While in high school, he played the trombone in the marching band, was an Eagle Scout in Troop 441, and hiked Philmont twice. While at Kingspoint, Connor was a member of Band Company, was captain of the rowing team, and was a midshipmen officer. As part of his education, Connor served on the USS Carl Brasher and the Maersk Montana traveling all over the world. He also attended Leatherneck at Quantico and jump school at Fort Benning.
Once active duty, Connor attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, with Charlie Company in the 6th Platoon. He then was stationed at NAS Pensacola where he attended flight school and completed BLADE and NIFE. Connor also worked at the Naval Air Museum on base and volunteered for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. He was recently transferred to NAS Corpus Christi to begin Primary.
Connor loved spending time with his family and friends on the lake in Spicewood, Texas. He was also a talented cook and enjoyed learning a variety of new skills. His loved ones knew him for his relentless work ethic, contagious smile and sense of humor.
Connor is survived by his parents, Mike and Rashelle McKim, his brother Cole McKim, and his girlfriend Rylee Carfer. He also leaves behind his paternal grandparents, Robert and Karen McKim, his maternal grandparents, Jack and Ann Sawyer, and his maternal aunt and uncle, Stefani and Mike Maupin.
Memorial Service to be held 1:00 PM December 9, 2023 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow at Fast Friends Beer Co., 7313 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd NB, Austin, TX 78744.
