Clinton C. Russell, 90, long time resident of Austin passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Clint was born in Aspermont, Texas on September 7, 1916. As a baby he and his parents traveled by covered wagon to Portales, New Mexico where he grew up on his parents ranch. Clint was proud to be an accomplished cowboy. Clint served with the U.S. Army 1st Calvary during WWII and went on to retire with the United States Air Force as a Master Sgt. After retiring from the service Clint settled in Austin where he engaged in several business ventures including Russells Drive-In Restaurant on South Congress. He went on to pursue a second career with the state of Texas working at the Travis State School and finally retiring as a guard at the Texas State Capital. Clint was very active with the VFW serving as commander of Post 856 from 1966 to 1968. He especially enjoyed marching in the Veterans Day Parade each year. Clint is survived by his wife, Elenora; brothers, Foy Russell of Austin, Jim Russell, Medford, Oregon; sisters, Sylvia Hyatt, Oakhurst, California, Joyce Dodd of Mederra, California; step-son, Leon Richter; step-daughter, Bernice Forrest; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Chapel.
