Nena is a graduate of the Loretto Academy High School (El Paso) Class of 1978 where she served as Student Body President. She went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin in 1993, kickstarting a long career in teaching. She was a member of the founding faculty at Holy Family Catholic School and blessed many other Austin schools and her students, with her presence. Before retiring, she served as Education Coordinator in the Offices of the Bishop & Vicar General Diocese of Austin.
Nena was a favorite at the schools she taught—particularly a favorite with her husband Craig, as this was where they first met. Claudia has ALWAYS had canine companions and she loved butterfly and crucifix motifs. Claudia fell in love with Austin and everything about it the day she arrived. She loved oceans, lakes, swimming pools, very high points, and life’s simple pleasures. Claudia cherished her visits to her Texas coast; Claudia’s favorite location on Lake Travis is and always will be Windy Point; Claudia had her own swimming pool and took a dip at her leisure; Claudia’s favorite high point is Mt. Bonnell. Whenever you think of Nena, and whenever you miss Nena, just take a moment to feel her spiritual presence. Her family, children, and grandchildren were her life, whether you called her Claudia, Nena, Mamacita, Tia, or friend.
Claudia was compassionate, empathetic and intuitive, caring; and she had so much love to give. She was a proud grandma and sweet Maddy was her first grandchild. Nena brought an immense amount of joy and laughter into our world and will be missed dearly.
She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Alex and Minnie Lizarraga, and a nephew, Alex. She leaves behind numerous family and friends including her loving husband, Craig Meserole; son Phillip Macfarlane (Tabetha), granddaughter Madison (Maddy), daughter Kamri Meserole (Raul), grandchildren Katalia, Lucy, Gabriela & Sofia; son Christopher (CJ) Meserole. Numerous nieces and nephews survive her, along with five siblings: Laura Adauto, Marcos (Cissy), Martin (Rosana), Miguel (Ofelia), and Daniel (Joy).
