Ola Charlyne Stanley Schmidt passed away on September 23, 2019. She was born in Granger, Texas on December 02, 1930. The youngest of four girls, Charlyne has many happy memories of her childhood in Granger and the surrounding area. She met her husband, Howard Schmidt, in Taylor, Texas. Although married for only 20 years, those were very busy years for her. She had 6 children in 8 years, supported Howard from his days as a milkman to an extremely successful career as a Realtor, they designed and built a beautiful house which was her lifelong home and the site for many family gatherings and celebrations, and always the hub of the family. We were blessed that Mom was able to remain in her home through her final days. Throughout her life, she was known as Charlyne, Charlie, China, Mom, Mama and Mimi .
She worked at the Internal Revenue Service for 27 years, during which time she received several awards for outstanding service and retired in December 2000. She volunteered at Seton Hospital as a Candy Striper for many years as well as many women's groups associated with Real Estate and the Northeast Austin neighborhood. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She loved Jesus dearly and read her bible every day. She was the true essence of a Christian woman, displaying love and forgiveness.
She always loved to be active and busy. She loved to work in her yard, planting flowers and maintaining her lovely cactus garden. She loved to sing and have music playing, humming and singing along with songs while she did her chores. She loved to dance, starting at the age of four, and spent many nights dancing thousands of miles. She loved the stars and we would often sit out on a blanket during the summer star-gazing. She loved trips to the beach, the Davis Mountains, weekends in Bastrop State Park or to the cabin at Lake Travis. She loved birdwatching and spent many hours scanning the trees and skies with binoculars, especially at the Corpus Christi Hawk Watch. She especially loved her annual week long vacation with her 3 sisters to New Braunfels in a river cottage. No phone, no TV, just lunch and laughter.
