Carolyn Goodwin Ellis, a lifetime Austin citizen went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 17th, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the age of 84. She had battled Alzheimer’s for five years. Born in Austin, Texas on July 22nd, 1929, Carolyn was the daughter of William P. Goodwin and Carrie A. (Henniger) Goodwin.
She grew up on a dairy farm in Govalle, graduated from Austin High School and also attended college at Mary Hardin-Baylor. She served and retired after 37 years of loyalty and dedication to the Office of the Attorney General of Texas as Chief of the Records Division.
Carolyn was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for over forty years and served faithfully as church secretary and enjoyed singing in the choir. Carolyn was a kind, generous, loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her two children, son, John W. Ellis, Jr. and daughter, Ronda Fournerat as well as their spouses, Belinda Ellis and Gregory Fournerat. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Elizabeth Ellis and Stephanie Ellis as well as her grandson, Creston Fournerat.
She was the youngest of 6 children and is preceded in death by her two brothers, William Goodwin and Edward Goodwin and three sisters, Jane Gongaware, Annabelle Mayes and Frances Hanson. Carolyn also was preceded in death by her husband of over 20 years, John W. Ellis, Sr.
The immediate family will receive friends for visitation between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 in the Chapel of Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
