Carol worked in North American Aviation at NASA from 1959 to 1964 and was actively involved in the Apollo Program. She had the opportunity to work the original seven astronauts and this was a memorable part of her career. She had endless stories of her experiences, stories of the Apollo Programs and landing a man on the moon.
After moving to Austin in 1965, she joined the National Western Life Insurance Company in 1968. She was the assistant to the President Grenn Biggs, later to assume the duties of Director of Personnel in November of 1970. She was promoted to Vice President/Human Resources in 1990. Carol always enjoyed working with people, problem solving and making a difference. During her 39 years at National Western she touched many lives. Her favorite pastime was boating on Lake Travis.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Wesley, her parents Moss and Louise Turnley, and sister Wanda Turnley. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Billy Jackson, cousins, and other loving family and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 9:00 AM at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Austin chapter of the ASPCA.
