Carla Jo Carlson passed away very peacefully at the age of 71 on December 20, 2023. Carla was born in Austin, Texas on August 19, 1952, to Margie & Clifford Cravatt. She lived all her life in Austin and she loved to research and study about the many generations of her family that had done the same.
Carla attended Zilker Elementary, Porter Jr. High School, Travis High School and graduated from Crockett High School, where she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen, and a class favorite; fun years for her! She then attended Southwest Texas State University. Carla played many sports as a young woman and retired from The Internal Revenue Service after 33 years.
Carla married Michael Lee Carlson on April 8, 1976. They had been friends since they were 12 years old, through church and bowling. They were happily married for 41 years. Some of Carla’s greatest joys were her 3 grandchildren, her 2 precious puppies, fishing at her place at the coast, flowers, the Texas Longhorns, and all sports.
Carla was a born-again Christian and loved The Lord with all her heart. We are greatly comforted in the assurance that she is now with Jesus, happy, healed, and whole. Philippians 3:20 – 21.
Carla is survived by her daughter Christi Renee Cox–Dault, 3 grandchildren, Tucker, Willie, and Emma, her brother John Cravatt and wife Tami, her brother in law Larry and wife LouAnn, sister in law Diana Pannell and husband Guy, Lisa Goll and husband David and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Phyllis Rummel, Cathy Boring, and Erin Cutro for their timeless effort in caring for Carla and being such devoted friends to her in the last several months of her life. We appreciate them more than we can express. Their friendship is priceless.
A very special thank you to Carla’s precious neighbor Carol Mnoian for always being there and looking out for Carla. We love you, Carol!
Cindy and Matthew Matzen, how can we thank you for stepping in and taking over the complete care of Carla’s beloved babies, Spicey and Elvis? Your true friendship is so cherished.
The family would also like to thank Sodalis Assisted Living and Magnolia Hospice for for their gentle and kind care of Carla the last week of her life.
A celebration of Carla’s life will be held at 1:00pm on January 31, 2024, at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Reception and visitation to immediately follow.
