Billy, as he was often known, was born October 23,1931 in West, Texas to Clyde and Esther Newman. They moved to Austin where Billy attended Austin High School and in 1951 enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS LST 1096 landing and support ship during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955 Billy returned to Austin to begin the next chapter of his life. In 1956 Billy married Delona and started a family along with a distinguished 35 year career for the US Postal service. Bill will always be remembered as a hard working, salt of the earth man devoted to God and his family.
Bill was a generous and beloved husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed but continue on in the hearts and memories of those who knew him.
Bill is survived by his wife Delona (Bobo) Newman married for sixty two years and three children; daughter Linda Weber (Jim), sons Scott Newman (Cliff) and Steve Newman (Kris). Six grandchildren; Robert, Dash, Nick, Shelby, Saylor, and Kambel as well as five great grandchildren; sister Rose Fullerton and niece, Kim Fullerton.
A viewing will be Wednesday January 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills 9700 Anderson Mills Road, Austin, TX.
Funeral and Memorial service will be held at the Promiseland Church Theater 1504 East 51st Street, Austin, TX on Thursday January 25 at 1:00 pm. A Veterans interment ceremony will follow at 3:00 pm, Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemeteries 14501 N. IH-35 Pflugerville, TX. Bishop Kenneth Phillips presiding.
