Betty was born in Tulsa, OK to James Virgil Joy and Myrtle Mae Frost-Joy, both of whom precede her in death.
Betty met the love of her life, Gene Meadows, and after knowing each other only three days, they married on January 14, 1951 in Rockwall, TX. As a military wife and mother of two that moved frequently due to duty stations, she always found a way of making a house feel like a home. She opened the house and welcomed Single Sailors for Holiday meals, fun and games. She loved playing softball, dominoes, kings corner, dice and Bingo while sharing coffee with friends and family. Betty will be remembered for her beautiful and contagious smile, loving heart, whitty sense of humor, and most of all as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to many.
Betty is proceeded in death by beloved husband Eugene Ervin Meadows, brother James Lee Joy and sister Cleo Lewis.
Betty is survived by son Jim Meadows and wife Theresa Meadows; daughter Jerri Wehmeyer and husband Ray Wehmeyer. Sister in law Helen Meadows; Grandchildren J.W Wehmeyer, Traci & Jonathan Fair, Julia & Rick McCarthy, Ashley & Logan Smith, David & Michelle Meadows, Chris Martin, and Cindy Jowers Great grandchildren Jarin & Brody Wehmeyer, Mackinlea, Kiernan & Lochlan Fair, Tyler McCarthy, Lucas & Gavin Smith, Aubree & Tryston (coming soon) Meadows, Blake Martin, Katelyn & Korbyn Jowers, and many other family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are David “Bubba” Meadows, Ray Wehmeyer, Jonathan Fair, Rick McCarthy, Logan Smith, & Monte Meadows. Honorary pallbearers Jim Meadows & J.W Wehmeyer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday December 31, 2015 at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Long officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park. 6300 W. William Cannon, Austin, TX 78738
