Bernice Lorrine Mitchell

Bernice Lorrine Mitchell, 92, passed away on April 22, 2023, and has been welcomed & received into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is rejoined with those who predeceased her; husband, Earl W. Mitchell, parents Alvin & Louise Schulze, sister Eleanor & John Steward and nephew, John Steward.

Bernice was born on Christmas Day in 1930 in Loebau, Texas and moved to Austin when she was a young girl who only spoke German. They became members of St Paul Lutheran Church where she went to grade school, graduated from Austin High School in 1949, married her husband, Earl Mitchell and they had 4 children.

Bernice was very involved with St Paul Lutheran Church from being confirmed and married there, she sang in the choir, both she & Earl began the Young Married Couples group. She was a member of LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) for many years and also involved with Ruth Circle. She stayed at home to raise her children and when the youngest began elementary school, she became the nutritionist and manager for St Paul Lutheran School’s cafeteria, where she made it her personal goal to make sure each & every child would eat healthy. After that, she worked for AISD in the administration office of the Special Education Department, from where she retired. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening and most of all cooking. Her love of food is how she will be remembered most fondly, since she made dishes that everyone loved. There was always a “new” recipe she wanted to try. She taught all 4 of her children how to cook and anyone else who wanted to learn. Her dishes will be missed by all.

Bernice is survived by her 4 children, Kenneth Mitchell, David Mitchell, Patricia Mitchell & Janice Mitchell, daughter-in-law Ginger Mitchell & son-in-law Glenn Cobb; grandchildren Joel Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, Jordy & Dana Mitchell, Kraig & Amber Mitchell, Clay & Jordan Mitchell & Nicholas Alessi; great-grandchildren Lynsey, Sara, Lucy, Logan, Adilene, Noah, Harmonee, Presley, Kennedy, Hayden, Thomas, Adrean and Gianni as well as nieces, cousins, and many other loving family members & friends.

A visitation for Bernice will be held will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Cook-Walden, North Lamar. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River St, Austin, Texas 78705. Graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
