Ann S. Rea died of natural causes on September 4, 2015. Born to Arthur and Lenore (Grosshans) Schwartz on January 16, 1922 in York, Nebraska, Mary Ann Schwarz was raised in York and studied Business Administration at the University of Nebraska before suspending classes and working as a civil servant for the Department of Defense during World War II. It was there that she met her husband, Captain James L. Rea, Jr. of the Army Air Corp and they began their 50-year marriage on September 8, 1945. They moved to Austin, Texas and raised two boys while serving in the church and the community. They were long-time members of the Friendship Class at First United Methodist Church. Ann Rea studied Elementary Education at the University of Texas, volunteered at the Austin State School, served 8 years on the Texas Runaway Hotline staff, and played the piano for her Sunday School class. She enjoyed bowling on leagues in Austin, and she and Jimmy were regular members of the Texas Square and Round Dancing scene for many years.
Ann Rea is survived by her two sons; Mike and his wife Susan of Austin, Texas; Dennis and his wife Trudy of Montgomery, Alabama; four grandchildren; Andy, Steven, Kristina, and Ally; and two great grandchildren, Clint and Miller.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 8th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., and services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9th. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
