Andrew “Drew” Clayton Johnson was born on November 24, 2003 and burst our hearts open as our bright-eyed, blonde haired boy. Drew was a sensitive, kind young man and would often surprise us with his insightful observations on a wide variety of subjects including politics, working out, healthy eating and travel.
As a young boy, our favorite memories of Drew include his obsession with a pair of red cowboy boots. He spent many hours with his friends skateboarding at House Park in Austin. Drew had a great talent for photography that grew under the mentorship of Carrie Kenny. He loved the family pet rabbit Bun Bun and his lifelong friend, Meow Meow, his stuffed animal, which he never outgrew and kept close. As Drew would want, Meow Meow will be with him forever.
Drew had family near and far. From Alabama to Texas, Drew brought his humor and personality everywhere he went. Never short on stories, factoids, and jokes, Drew could entertain.
In recent months, Drew had completed a real estate program in order to become a licensed agent. He was attending Austin Community College with plans to transfer to Texas State for a business administration management degree.
At 18, Drew was approaching the age when you stop seeing your siblings as pests, and start appreciating them. He loved Lila, Ada and Jimmy very much and would have dropped everything in order to be there for them if they needed him.
Nothing could have prepared us for this huge loss and we will spend the rest of our days keeping Drew’s memory alive. Drew, we love you, we miss you. You’ll be forever in our hearts.
Drew is survived by his parents, Brenton Johnson and Beth Newsome, siblings Lila, Ada and James “Jimmy”, grandparents Randy (Maria) Johnson, Cynthia Brown, Ron and Lynn Newsome, uncles Ashley Johnson and Aaron Rice, aunt Amy Newsome and cousins, Anne and Hazel. He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents Andrew Clayton Johnson Sr. “Papa” and Emma Nell Johnson “Mama Nell”, Bill “Gramps” and Lou “Granny” Harris, Calvin Newsome “Papa Calvin” and Hortense Newsome “Granny Blue”, Edward “Papa” Allen and Edna “Granny” Allen.
