Ace Hill Alsup, Jr., 85, died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 31, 2006 in Austin, Texas after a brief illness. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia, his sister, Imogene Arnold, and his grandson, Andrew Alsup. He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Ace and Nan Alsup and Jim and Debbie Alsup. D-Dad is also survived by, and dearly loved by his grandchildren, Josh and Leslie Alsup, Rachel and Brison Matula, Rebecca Alsup, Caroline McWilliams, Sally McWilliams, and Annie McWilliams, and his twin great-granddaughters, Abby and Bailey Alsup. Born in Little River, Texas on June 3, 1921, Ace moved to Temple, Texas as a young boy, where he lived much of his life. After graduating from The University of Texas, he attended medical school until he joined the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. After completing his military duties, he earned his law degree from the University of Texas and practiced law in Temple for several years. Ace then entered the educational field and obtained a masters in education from Baylor University. He became a teacher, a principal, and eventually served as superintendent of Temple ISD. He finished his professional career with the Teacher Retirement System in Austin as Assistant Executive Director. Ace met and married Cynthia Hill while they were both attending the University of Texas. His devotion to his wife and abiding love for her defined his life. They shared 52 years together raising their sons, traveling around the U.S., and enjoying their grandchildren until her death in 1995. His life was characterized by kindness, gentleness, integrity, generosity, and a good sense of humor. Above all, he had a genuine interest in others. He was especially committed to his family and to his Lord. He always took the time to listen and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His last years were enriched by his special friendship with Mickey Heap. Special thanks to Dr. Scott Ream, Dr. Bill Deaton, and Dr. Mike Shapiro for their exceptional care and to the other physicians, nurses, and staff attending him at Seton Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 4, at Weed- Corley-Fish Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas.
