With profound sadness, we announce the sudden death of Steve Kingston at Southlake Regional Health Centre, early Christmas morning. Steve was the beloved husband of Susan (Dougherty) and devoted father of Brandon, Cameron and Victoria. His parents, Ernie and Enorma Kingston of Kitchener and siblings, Chris (George Joyce), Al (Jacki), and Rick (Catherine Blythe), father-in-law, Jim Dougherty of Goderich, as well as many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews, and close friend, Dorine Dubreuil, also mourn his loss. Steve had a wide circle of friends, too numerous to name, whom he considered family. He was our hero, our "Big Stevie" and our "Captain Steve". Most recently we all gathered in the spring at his much-loved family cottage in Port Severn to celebrate Steve and Susan's 25th anniversary, where Steve shone as host and bartender extraordinaire.
Steve was born in Kitchener on September 29, 1959. He graduated from University of Waterloo and for the past 15 years, operated his thriving chartered accountancy practice in Sharon, and most recently, Newmarket, where he was honoured to be named one of the top three accountants in the Era Banner's 2013 Readers' Choice Awards. Steve also volunteered for the Newmarket Stingrays Swim Club for over a decade, serving first as a Board member, then as Treasurer, and most importantly, as President of that organization; and he achieved Level 5 as a Master Official for Swimming Canada.
Steve loved music and theatre all his life. While in Kitchener he performed in Fiddler on the Roof with KW Musical Productions and he played trumpet for 5 years in the Waterloo Regional Police Band. When he lived in London, where he met Susan, he performed in Gilbert and Sullivan and other community theatre productions. During his years raising his family in Holland Landing, he appeared on-stage in Oliver and sang in the York Regional Police Male Chorus.
In addition to music and theatre, Steve loved cottage life, boating, travel, cruising, skiing and hockey, but his greatest joy, and his pride, was his family.
Steve's family are grateful to the staff of Southlake Regional Health Centre, particularly the emergency staff and all the many staff of the CCU who tried so hard to save his life, so he could be with all of us for the many more years we all hoped to have him.
As Steve liked to say, "That's all she wrote."
Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, 905-727-5421 on Monday, December 29th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, December 30th at 11am in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Steve's family would be grateful for donations in Steve's name to the Southlake Foundation for the Emergency Department.
