She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Mark and Simon (Claire) Barton; grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew and Christopher Barton; brother, Bill Howlett; sister, Avril (Mick) O'Leary; as well as her much loved nieces and nephews. Diesel and Tank will miss all of the love and cuddles. She will also be dearly missed by her many friends from Oak Ridges and The Roxborough Retirement Residence.
Predeceased by her husband, Michael; sister, Vanessa; sister-in-law, Mavis and brother-in-law, Gerald.
Rita very much enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She quilted for many years with her dear friends and supporting various charities within her community. She was incredibly proud of her sons, and daughter-in-law, and the lives they have created for themselves. Her greatest joy, however, was her grandsons. She was a devoted Nan who created many wonderful memories with them both as children and young men. The stories of the Zellers Restaurant are legendary. She had a wonderful sense of humour and delighted in telling her new jokes. They were not always for the faint of heart.
At Rita's request, no service will be held. Her wish is for those who knew and loved her to treat themselves to a nice meal, raise a glass in her memory and tell a spicy joke, or two, she would have loved that.
Rita's family wishes to say a special thank you to the Mackenzie Health Hospital Palliative Care and Dialysis Clinic teams, also the staff and residents of the Roxborough. She very much appreciated their kindness and care.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the Barton family.
