It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julia Anne Patten. Julia passed away peacefully in her sleep in her 91st year on April 28th, 2023 at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario. Julia was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life, William (Bill) Frederick Patten, in his 93rd year on March 4th 2021 in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. A Celebration of Life in honour of Julia and Bill will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, Aurora, Ontario, on Saturday May 6th from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Julia was born in England in 1932 and arrived in Canada with her family, via the Queen Mary, following the war. Bill was born in Toronto in 1928 and grew up with his family in the east end of Toronto. They ultimately met each other at the Balmy Beach Club in the Beaches, where they danced the nights away and shared a fairy-tale love story. They were married at St. John's Norway Anglican Church, Toronto, on February 3rd, 1951, and celebrated their milestone 70th wedding anniversary before Bill passed away in 2021.
Julia and Bill raised their four children in Richmond Hill and Oak Ridges before spending their retirement years in numerous little towns across the province and country, including Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon, Orwell Cove (PEI) and St. Andrew's (NB). Julia was the ultimate stay at home mom for her family. She would happily attend every sporting event, dance class and activity that her children could drag her too. Julia was an avid reader and knitter and even discovered some hidden talents as an artist/painter during her retirement. Bill was a Civil Engineer and a professional 'tinkerer'. Right up to the end, he always kept his hands busy working on some sort of DIY project or working away at his carvings or his guitar playing. They shared an incredible love for each other for over 70 years, and that love was passed on to everyone that knew them.
Julia and Bill are predeceased by their loving granddaughter Sarah and sisters/sisters-in-law Joan (Ken) Lebannister and Dorothy (Jack) Robertson.
Julia (Nana) and Bill (Poppa, Pops) will be forever missed by their four children Kim (Bob), Kelly (Doug), Glenn (Julie), Paul (Pam), their eight adoring grandchildren, Marnie, Kyle (Erica), Lauren, Emili, Alex, Aidan, Olivia, Owen, and their two great grandchildren, Cole and Audrey. They will be dearly missed by Julia's brother Dave Morris and their many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
