Joe is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Alma, his daughter Jennifer (husband Robert), his granddaughters Meredith (partner Andre) and Lauren (partner Mohamed). He was predeceased by his father John Durkin, mother Ruth Durkin and sister Beatrice Buckley.

Despite a humble start, Joe had a long and productive life, serving in the Royal Navy in World War 2, and at the D Day landings, emigrating to Canada and working for the Department of National Defence for many years.

Due to his endearing personality he was loved by family, friends and colleagues, and more recently the people of the Meadows of Aurora, where he ended his days.

Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario, or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated.

A Memorial Service for Joseph will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, ON L4G6W8.
