"Resting in the arms of Jesus"
John Edward Saul, “Jack”, was born in Clarkson, Ontario on November 1, 1921; the first son of Catherine and Edward Saul. His brother Billy arrived two years later. Their childhood summers were spent at their cottage on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka until tragedy struck in a severe thunderstorm storm one evening. Billy died when lightning tracked through their tent, leaving Jack, age 11, as an only child.
Jack attended school in Riverdale, East York, Toronto. At 19 he started working with Bell Telephone. Early in his career, Jack enlisted with the RCAF and rose to the rank of Flying Officer. He subsequently became a flight instructor within the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan for the duration of the war. As soon as the war ended, Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Maisie Carphin in 1945.
His career ultimately spanned 40 years with Bell and he retired in 1980 while on contract with them in Saudi Arabia.
As the years went by, they viewed their children, Bill, Kathryn and Elizabeth as a great blessing and in subsequent years have welcomed their spouses, Brenda, Peter and Jeff. Their joy has continued with the arrival of 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Jack came to faith in Christ in 1935 and has loved Him, throughout his life.
His favourite verse was:
“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”
Psalm 118:24
He lived each day in this relationship with Christ and on the morning of November 16th, 2016, went to be with Him. Jack will long be remembered by those who loved him.
