After a stubborn battle with Parkinson’s, John (age 84) is now resting comfortably. He’ll be joining his adored late wife Patricia (nee Gingell) who preceded him several years ago. He leaves behind his 2 daughters, Karen (Jay Smith) and Cheryl, and 3 amazing grandkids – Kurtis, Ryan and Mia. He also leaves behind his loving partner Donna and her wonderful family.
John’s entire career from teenager to retirement was with Toronto Hydro, where he met his best friend Reg Armstrong, who he shared many laughs with and a love of curling. John loved his time at several curling rinks around the Golden Horseshoe, competing with a great group of friends in the sport he enjoyed most. If curling was on TV, we knew exactly where to find him!
Retirement years found John enjoying and running the Cannington Lawn Bowling Club. He also loved watching the Blue Jays and could “talk shop” with Donna, Cheryl, Kurtis, Jay and Ryan about their ups and downs. And Mia was always ready with hugs and kisses if the team was on a losing streak. Always one to enjoy a good get together, John also had fun at Grey Cup parties with the extended family.
John was an avid gardener back in the day and also enjoyed travelling, in particular exploring Canada coast to coast by camping with the family. So many good times around the campfire in Ontario as well, with the Dales family.
In his honour we ask that you raise a toast and enjoy a rum and Coke on John’s behalf. If you prefer something sweet, a substantial scoop of chocolate ice cream or pudding would also be fitting.
