Dermot is survived by his spouse and partner in life Beata Grodkowska and stepdaughter Karolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Una Carty.
And those who had the pleasure to meet him came to realize he was one of a kind and larger than life.
Dermot made Canada his home after immigrating from Ireland some 50 years ago, proudly completing an undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University before entering postgraduate studies at York University.
But his true love was the horses. His professional life revolved around the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry in which he was known and respected in North America and beyond.
As a person he was caring, loving, and always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone. He was loyal to his friends and always loved a good laugh.
Dermot’s passing has left a large hole in the hearts of those who love him. He leaves behind his sisters Nuala and Deirdre Carty, Una (Carty) and John Feeney, nephews Eoin and Daire Feeney, brother Brendan Carty, and nieces Charlene and Amanda. Dermot was blessed with an extended family in Poland, his mother-in-law Helena, and sister-in-law Ola. He will be deeply missed by aunts and cousins in Poland, Chicago, and Montreal, Sheila McCann and Ian Donlon, and friends both local and abroad.
A memorial mass for Dermot will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Parish, 15347 Yonge Street, Aurora, ON L4G 1N7.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the Carty family.
