Vernon Dale Ediger, born April 26, 1931, passed away and entered his eternal home on Sunday, December 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93. Vernon was born in Inman, Kansas, to Jacob and Nellie Ruth (Pauls) Ediger. He grew up in a number of towns in Kansas, including Groveland, Inman and McPherson. Vernon was the beloved brother of Velma, Virgil, Eldo, Carl, Paul, and Wayne. Raised with a strong foundation in faith and family, Vernon carried those values throughout his life. He graduated from McPherson High School. After graduation Vernon enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 and separated under General Honorable conditions in San Diego, CA in the same year.
On May 25, 1957, Vernon married the love of his life, Nona Loyce Ediger, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2017. Together, they raised five children: Carrie, DeAnna, John, Michael, and Steven, who brought him immense pride and joy and whose faith and love reflected his life’s greatest treasures. Vernon was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
A man of ambition, Vernon initially dreamed of a career in the airline industry but found his calling in banking. He served as a Banking Officer for various financial institutions around the country, including Avco Finance, Colorado National Bank, and Bank One. He was also an active member and officer in local, state, and national credit associations. In his retirement, he and Nona ministered to residents at Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center each Friday for over 20 years, where they, and later other volunteers, would read scripture, sing hymns, and pray with the residents.
Vernon was a man of many passions, enjoying hobbies such as reading, woodworking, gardening and fishing. He delighted in sharing good jokes and cherished the simple joys of life; he enjoyed listening to old-traditional hymns, Western music, and Southern Gospel in addition to turning on an old Western movie. He also enjoyed walking 2 miles each day and spending time with his family and friends.
Above all, Vernon was a devoted Christian who sought to live a life that reflected his faith. His greatest pride was seeing his children build strong faiths in Jesus, as well as faithful marriages and families. He believed in living with integrity, ensuring that his words and deeds bore witness to God’s grace.
Vernon’s legacy is one of unwavering love for his wife, Nona, his children, and their families. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, brother, and uncle, but most importantly, he will be remembered as a faithful witness to Christ. His life clearly reflected his beliefs in the way he lived as an example of faith, love, and forgiveness. He lived as Jesus taught, loving the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind, and loving his neighbor as himself.
His family takes comfort in being blessed by his full, long life, and of his service and witness for Jesus; there is great hope and joy knowing that he is now with the Savior!
He is survived by his children Carrie (Mark) Keimig, DeAnna Whittemore, John (Dannet) Ediger, and Michael (Linda) Ediger, in addition to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona, his son, Steven, and his brothers Virgil and Eldo.
His memorial will be on Saturday, January 11, 2025, 3:00 p.m. in Sandberg Auditorium at Heather Gardens, 2888 S. Heather Gardens Way, Aurora, CO, 80014.
