It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rose Ivy Steen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully left us in her sleep on the morning of Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at the remarkable age of 100. Rose passed away in the comfort of her home in Aurora, Colorado.
Born on March 14, 1924, in London, England, Rose was the cherished daughter of George Arthur and Rose Elizabeth Smith. On September 16, 1951, she married Howard “Steve” Steen, in the Parish Church of St. Mary in Willesden, England. Their love story began after the war. They met in London, where Howard was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. Together, they journeyed across the world, living in places like Okinawa, Morocco, as well as Spain, but their greatest accomplishment was the family they nurtured, raising four children.
Known for her boundless generosity, unyielding tenacity, and a sharp wit that brought joy to those around her, Rose touched the lives of many. Her family holds dear the fond memories of her unique and loving gestures. Whether it was saving her bread and butter to treat her granddaughter’s dog, Maui, or making the best spaghetti, Rose’s warmth and kindness were evident in all she did.
Her granddaughters will forever cherish the afternoons spent watching The Price is Right with "Nanny,", swimming together with a giant whale pool float, as well as her unwavering British traditions, including her daily afternoon tea—an endearing habit that some believe contributed to her century-long life.
Rose’s favorite pastimes included lunch outings, enjoying a cup of tea with an English biscuit, and reading Danielle Steel novels. These simple pleasures reflected the joy she found in everyday moments.
Rose leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She is survived by her three daughters, Gail, Beverly (Steve), and Lynn (Kevin), as well as her two granddaughters, Natalie and Nicole (Jayden). Rose was preceded in death by her siblings George, Betty, Joan, Len, and Bill, her husband Howard, and her son Glenn.
In true Rose fashion, she wouldn't have wanted to be the center of attention. But if asked how she should be celebrated, she might suggest an afternoon tea party in her honor.
As we say our final goodbyes, we remember Rose with the words of her favorite song: "There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover..." May her soul find peace and serenity, just as the cliffs stand quietly watching over the sea.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you share a memory or photo of Rose on her obituary page. If you wish to send flowers, you can do so directly through the website.
