“My father’s timeless dedication to perceiving and recognizing the significance and importance of developing positive and supportive relationships with his companions is what made him the most admirable and wonderful person that I will miss endlessly.” – Greg Gilbert.
Robert Lee Gilbert II, 60, passed away on January 21, 2024, with his devoted wife and loving son by his side.
Rob was born September 27, 1963, in Vero Beach, FL to the late Robert and Joann Gilbert.
Rob was a proud Florida native and Vero Beach resident for many years. Rob attended Osceola Magnet Elementary, Gifford Middle, and Vero Beach High schools and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education at Florida Atlantic University.
Rob’s passion and purpose in life was teaching, caring, and connecting with others around him. He committed his time here on earth to his family, students/parents, and community. Rob was always willing to volunteer himself to help anyone however he could, and his guidance and encouragement touched the lives of many people.
One of Rob’s best character attributes was how he personally knew many people, and how he used his friendship and optimism to make a difference in their lives. Rob’s favorite thing to tell his new classroom students was how he knew of or directly taught their sibling/parent/cousin/etc. and how it would be an honor for him to get to know and appreciate them too.
Late in life, Rob suffered a spinal cord injury and became disabled by body, but fortunately not by spirit. Rob navigated through many of life’s unfair challenges with unparalleled grace and altruism, never forgetting the power and reach of his selflessness and benevolence.
Rob spent his final years moving to Colorado to be close to his son and family. Rob continued to extend his unwavering support to everyone he knew, no matter if they were near or far.
Rob leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Jacquelyn, son Greg and his wife Megan, and grandson Grant.
May Rob’s legacy of kindness, strength, and resilience continue to inspire us all.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in Vero Beach, FL in the coming months. Details will follow.
