Frederick Lawrence Lee, 83, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 19, 2017. Fred was born on March 14, 1934 in New Haven, Connecticut. He grew up in New England and being part of a military family so he was able to see many places, then later served in the U.S. Army himself. He moved to Colorado in the early 70’s . Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Regina (Faber), step-mother, Doris Lyle (Blakely) and his father, James Havris Lee, Jr.
Fred was a man who loved God and his family deeply. All who knew him felt loved and many had their own special names for him. He was a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, grandpa and soon-to-be great-grandfather. He also shared his heart by being a godfather to Cheney Knipprath and sponsoring Marie Alice in India for the last 15 years. His puppy Sophie was his constant companion. Fred made an impact on many lives through his countless interests: teaching Sunday school, clowning around at the hospital, as well as his teaching and participation in the Roller Skating world. He enjoyed the spirit of competition by routing for the Patriots even while surrounded by devout Bronco fans. He enjoyed trying his luck in either Blackhawk or Las Vegas. He had a green thumb, and will be remembered by his love of roses. While some many have though him to be stern and serious, Fred had a unique sense of humor and had the best belly laugh. He was tender at heart even though he would have wanted you to believe he was a “Ba Hum Bug”. Fred paid attention to all the little details, which contributed greatly to everyone he knew feeling his love.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Grace Ann (Worley), his two daughters, Wendy Avila (Husband Tim) and Tina Raad (Husband Kevin). Fred was the grandfather to Ashley Lee-Meyers, Bradley Eckburg, Chase Raad, Danielle Quinn, Quentin Raad, Erica Quinn, Matthew Simokat, and Benjamin Avila. He was an older brother to his three sisters: Regina Dickinson (Husband Tom), Violet Stanphil (Husband Jerry), and Lemma “Elley” Peterson(Husband Roger); along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends.
We will be celebrating Fred’s life and all that he was on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 10a.m. at the Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, followed by a reception. Since this is a celebration of life, “proper attire” would be anything Harry Potter, Grinch, Donald Duck, Patriots or anything Royal Blue. The family also requests in lieu of flowers that you please consider honoring Fred by making a donation in his name to either the Denver Zoo or the Shriner’s Hospital c/o Chicago Hospital 2211 N. Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60707.
