Eric was born July 12, 1974 in Monroe, LA. He grew up in Denver/Aurora and received his education in the Denver/Aurora Public School systems. Eric attended St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted the Lord at the age of 12. He later attended Real Life Christian Center, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Tommy Mitchell, for twelve years.
Eric was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of six, but that did not discourage him from accepting the challenges that he had to face in life.
Eric was always willing and ready to work when he was able. Shalom Jewish Family Service was instrumental in placing Eric in employment positions over the years. In 2019, Eric was featured on the cover of Shalom’s magazine for his outstanding work performance at Ekus Auto Parts.
Eric was a very outgoing and competitive when it came to sports. He and his friend Chauncey and their basketball buddies loved challenging anyone on the basketball court. His favorite basketball team was the Golden State Warriors, and you knew where to find Eric during the basketball season. He enjoyed watching football and playing pool with his friend, Mr. Jim from Alpine Day Program. (Eric enjoyed playing with Mr. Jim even though he never won a game.) He enjoyed going to Alpine Day Program on his days off from work.
Eric enjoyed family nights, which included prayer, eating, and playing games with his mother, stepfather, and brother Andre. (Dominoes was Eric’s favorite game.) Eric particularly enjoyed his role as a big brother and spent quality time with Andre. He and Andre would often spend time watching sports and movies, bowling, and playing board games.
Eric loved to cook his favorite dishes, jambalaya and pineapple upside down cake, but he loved Granny’s pig feet, black-eyed peas, and cornbread. His favorite hobbies were arts and crafts, making costume jewelry, money pouches, and scarves. He also enjoyed making miniature cities, sculptures, and model cars.
Eric enjoyed holiday gatherings with family and friends, and he made special Christmas gifts for family members. Macaroni and cheese were one of his favorite holiday dishes.
Eric’s big smile, laughter, hugs and smooth demeanor will be missed. He never let his disability define who he was or define what he could or could not do.
Eric departed this life and transitioned to the Lord’s open arms on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Linda D. (Stepfather Dave) Cole; stepbrother, Andre McGee; his grandfather’s Deacon Carl Baylor and Rev. Fred L. Brockington; aunts, Gerri (Mario) Purvis, Terrie (Rickey) Smith, Carlyne (James) Marshall; and a host of other aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
