On Friday morning August 30, 2024 God, and his infinite wisdom, called from our midst Mr. Johnny Lee Lockhart.
He began his journey in life on September 21, 1937, in Jefferson County Louisville, Georgia to the parents of William and Mary Brown Lockhart. The seventh child of seven children. He was reared in a home with parents of strong faith in God. At a very young age he became a member of Eden Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnny received his early education at Lockhart Elementary School and Jefferson County Training School in Louisville, Georgia. He later relocated to Florida with his sister Willie Mae and graduated from Attucks High School in Hollywood, Florida.
In his professional life, Mr. Johnny served in the United States Army and Army Reserve from 1961 to 1967. Education was of great importance to him. He attended Tuskegee Institute and Troy State University (Alabama), where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Striving to educate others, he became a high school history teacher for many years in Ozark, Alabama.
He relocated to Augusta, Georgia where he married the love of his life the late Kim Lynn Nguyen, their family grew to include Kim Marie, Kimberly Dione and John Michael.
His professional life included Senior Management at Sky City Discount Store, 50% of Store, Maxway Store, and Eckert Drugs. He also served Richmond County Board of Education as a substitute teacher for middle and high schoolers. Other employment includes The Medical College of Georgia.
Memories of his life will be cherished by his daughters, Kim Lockhart-Kyzer (Russell) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Kimberly Lockhart (Bryce) of Augusta, Georgia; son John Lockhart; sister Eunice Lee Lockhart of Louisville, Georgia; grandchildren Jessica Marie, Jaden Tahli and Kateri Dionne; sister-in-law Dessie Lockhart of Wadley, Georgia; devoted nieces Gloriasteen Lockhart-Wilson, Joelona Wilson, Monica Lockhart, Jacqueline Lockhart, Eloise Lockhart, Dorothy Lawrence; nephews Jackie Lockhart, Dwight Lockhart (Jeanine), Derrick Lockhart; special cousins Doris Hodges, Dolores Asberry, Debra Hodges, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Johnny is preceded in death by siblings Willie Mae Dixon, Reverend William Lockhart, Moses Lockhart, James A. Lockhart, and Edgar L. Lockhart.
Pallbearers that will honor Mr. Johnny will be Lockhart family and friends.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906. An interment will occur Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Rd, Augusta, Georgia 30906.
