Margie was predominately a homemaker for most of her life, however over the years she also worked as a dry cleaning specialist, grocery store clerk and a secretary at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio.
Margie was a Godly woman who cherished her relationship with the Lord above all else. She was a member of Haven Church of God, Red Hat Society and was a VISTA volunteer teaching prisoners and immigrants to read. When not helping others Margie enjoyed cooking, was an avid reader, getting together with family and friends, and loved going to church and concerts with her daughter Pam as she had a love for music. One of her favorite musical programs was that of The Gaither Homecoming.
Margie was predeceased by her husband Van R. Porter II, brothers Millard Pollard and Lee Pollard, sister-in-love Elene Pollard, stepdaughter Vanette Porter, daughter Pamela K. Porter Holcomb Hancock, son Theodore Anson Porter, nephew Thomas Pollard and her great-granddaughters Ruth Joy Wilson and Tikvah Coffee. She is survived by her sister Paula Hum (Doug), daughter Starr Coffee (Jim), son Van R. Porter III (Angie), daughter-in-love Denise Porter, sister-in-love Janet Pollard and her grandchildren Lonn Holcomb (Sherri), Troy Holcomb (Tammi), Erica Scharer (Christian), Stephanie Browning, Ted Porter (Maria), Paul Porter (Keri), Van Porter IV, Nathan Porter, Mark J. Coffee, Grace Wilson (Levi) and Justin Porter. Margie also leaves behind her 38 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, nephews Kirk Hum (Bonnie) and Ken Hum (Kymi) and nieces Linda Pollard Tyson, Dawn Mitchell (Jeff) and Beth Scott (Mike) as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale with a graveside service to follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale. Family and friends are invited to The Haven Church of God for a reception following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Margie's name to the American Heart Association.
