Born May 20, 1923, to Fred A. Petty and Rosetta (Dutcher) Petty, in Fair Haven Township, Sebewaing, Michigan. Died April 6, 2022, in Sebring, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marvin Leon Johnson, and all 7 of her siblings. Mother to Linda L. (Paul) Hine, Barbara A. (Keith) Putney, and Rodney E. (Linda) Johnson. Grandmother to 8, Great- Grandmother to 12, Great-Great Grandmother to 6, and Great-Great-Great Grandmother to 2.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at a very young age and attended church faithfully. Living in Michigan she was a member of the Open Bible Church. Moving to Sebring, Florida in the late 70's she attended and became a member of the Assembly Church. She loved serving the Lord and she performed in many roles over the years as President of the Women's World Fellowship, Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Orchestra Leader/Member, and she took charge of the plays.
She also wrote articles about the misadventures of members in a paper called the "Grapevine"
which was read in Overcomers. She played the guitar and in later years the banjo more often and became known as the "Banjo Lady". She was also known for her high heels, which she wore until she was at least 93.
She was a homemaker and "MOM". She could cook, scrub, sew, crochet, and quilt (by hand, not on the machine because that was sewing, not quilting). Every member of the family has, at least, one of her quilts, where each stitch was placed with love. She always wanted to stay busy, so if she wasn't doing any of the above, she was an avid reader, loved doing puzzles, collecting stamps, or spending time in her yard and garden.
Services will be held at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace, Tuesday, April 12, at 11:00. Officiating will be Pastor D. Trent Morgan, and Rev. Wilmont McCrary.
