1931-2022
William G. "Bill" Hatch, 91, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his home in Wales with his family by his side. He was born March 16, 1931 in Lewiston the son of H. Donald and Arlene (Harding) Hatch.
Bill graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1949, and continued his education at the University of Maine Orono majoring in Agriculture.
Bill married Shirley Bubier, his High School sweetheart, on Feb 2 1952, and they had recently celebrated their 70th Anniversary. They were blessed with 7 children.
He shared ownership of Merrill Haven Farm in Auburn for decades. He enjoyed farming as a livelihood especially since it involved his entire family working the farm.
After a hard day's work, Bill looked forward to spending time with family and being a part of the Grange. He held several offices including Past Master of the Danville Junction Grange, Stevens Mills Grange, and Androscoggin Pomona Grange. He also served as Deputy for Maine State Grange and was a member of the State Grange Agricultural Committee.
He was a member of the Soil and Water Conversation District (Androscoggin/Sagadahoc), volunteered for the Boy Scouts as a counselor for their agricultural badges, and Pitch In 4-H Club as the Dairy Leader.
Bill will be remembered for his pranks, sense of humor, laughter and work ethic and most of all his love for his family. Grandchildren fondly recall family Sunday dinners at the farm and rides in the wagon pulled by his golf cart.
He is survived by his adoring wife Shirley (Bubier) Hatch; children Colleen Hartford & husband Dana, Karen Gagne & husband Terry, Cheryl Tukey, Robert Hatch, Ronald Hatch & partner Denise Benoit Scott, Richard Hatch & wife Jane, and Kimberly Kobierski & husband John; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Richard Bubier and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, sisters Beverly Hubbard and Shirley A. Hatch and brother James Warren ”Skeeter” Hatch.
