Many good visits to buy eggs & butter, shared stories and had many laughs. Will miss Bill,  Mark Warren & Carrie.

I accidentally wandered up to a cranky pony named "Joker" when I was about 5. I got kicked and ended up with Mrs. hatch cleaning me up. As she washed my face, she exclaimed, "it's another Jones!" 

She called my Dad to come get me. 

It was great for the 7 of us Joneses to have all the Hatch kids as neighbors. There was always someone about the same age as each of us. For example, I remember learning to ride with my buddy Cheryl (yes, my dad put me on Joker so I wouldn't fear horses).  

I also remember wandering the fields and woods and bogs of the Hatches' property and surrounds, as a kid. Not much in the way of scheduled, after-school activities in those days, at least not until we hit middle school. 

We were so lucky to have the freedom to roam and friendship of the Hatches. Life felt like an adventure. Mr. and Mrs. Hatch were the warm, welcoming, and wise center of it all.

Mr. Hatch, his family and his farm was an inspiration to many of his neighbors.
As a boy living next to one of his fields on Fairview Ave. I was drawn into the truly pastoral farm world. Fields of 10 ft. corn, lush green waving timothy hay, herd of milk cows mooing, the farmhouse, barns and silos high on the hill.
When it was haying time, farm work was in full swing. Riding in the hay wagon behind the tractor and bailing machine, we would catch and pack the bails to make a full load. At the hay barn we'd unload onto the conveyor and securely pack & stack the bails up to the roof! It was hot dusty work but it felt so good to get a drink of water and stand open armed cooling off in front of the big blower fans that dried the stacked hay in the barn. Breaks over, off for another load!
One early fall day Mr. hatch "recruited" me (tag, you're it) to help with his honey bee hives. He said "Be calm, move slowly and remain calm." No nets, coveralls or gloves, just a smoker.
I did get stung once, but only because a bee got stuck under my jacket cuff. I remained calm, it was mild and there were no other issues. Mr. Hatch thanked me and gave me a jar of Real honey for my help.
Once injected by that farm bee and tasting pure farm fresh honey, I've had a desire to raise honey bees.

Thank You Mr. Hatch for having patience with us kids, showing us an honest days work and letting us "help" you.
May you Rest in Peace knowing that your legacy lives on in all those that you have touched.

Bill was one of the kindest and most friendly members of the Grange.  He always had a kind word and was never too busy to have a word. I used to ask him all sorts of questions about my ‘flock’ (5) of chickens and he always listened closely and never laughed!! Lol I will miss his Ag reports during our meetings and his sense of humor…you never knew what he was going to do next! My thoughts and prayers with his family.

Uncle Bill and Aunt Shirley took me into their home for over a year - his “little CT girl”. He taught me how to milk a cow and included me in all family events. I will never forget the loving memories I shared in Maine with Uncle Bill ( Heather’s uncle) and the Hatch family. He was so loved!❤️

 remember Bill for the sweet and caring man that he was..You will be sadly missed.

Living just up the street, I feel like I grew up on Merrill Haven Farm. I don't think there was a corner or a smell of it I didn't know.  And Bill was the head of that marvelous world.  I remember him always greeting me with a with a warm smile, a joke, a bit of conversation.... He was a busy man  but would take a minute for a young neighbor.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Shirley and to the family.  Bill was a hard worker and a kind and loving man.  He was a true friend and will be sadly missed by so many people.  With all of our love, Wes and Glenys Ryder

Shirley and family,  my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I will always remember Bill's loving teasing when asking if I rode to Grange in the back of the truck. I so much enjoyed getting to know him.

To Shirley and family my deepest sympathy. Bill was "one of a kind". A good, caring man of simple means. While he loved to joke his love of family and friends and always being there is what I will remember most. I am sending you all the hugs you can handle.

Dear Hatch Family, 
I have so many good memories of Mr Hatch at Merrill Haven , Mrs Hatch, “ Skeeter” and other family members. Our neighborhood seemed to revolve around their family. I learned to milk a cow and weigh the milk, drive a tractor using the clutch as a brake. Bill Hatch seemed welcome us kids while teaching us about farming.  Please continue to watch over Mrs Hatch.
