1934 - 2022
Auburn-Robert Fernand Morin, age 87, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones at Androscoggin Hospice after dealing with the effects of dementia. He was born in his family’s home in Lewiston, Maine. on March 28, 1934 to Arsene and Yvonne (Tremblay) Morin. He attended Holy Cross School and St. Dominic High School.
He had 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. Many happy memories were made at his home on Dana Avenue in Auburn.
He worked for over 30 years in advertising sales at the Sun Journal. He would traverse the greater twin cities meeting with business representatives securing ads. He would then create the ads at his drafting table using letters, images and an X-acto knife. He always racked up a considerable number of parking tickets in these endeavors, which he would sometimes have taken care of by the Chief of Police. He later worked at Bath Iron Works.
He was the consummate performer. He enjoyed music theater, singing in choruses and church, and serving as master of ceremony. He had a legendary sense of humor. He was most proud of his performance as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, which many of his family members performed in as well. He appeared in many other productions. He helped direct a version of Godspell with his first wife, Rachelle, in the 1970’s, which toured various Catholic venues in Maine and New Hampshire. Some of his children and nieces and a nephew were in the troupe.
He ran the Holy Cross bingo for decades. In addition to oversight, he would of course sometimes work the microphone calling numbers and doing comedy. He was often referred to as Bingo Bob. He also served as Eucharistic Minister and lector at Holy Cross. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He played in the Holy Cross and Painters golf leagues for many years. He also enjoyed playing poker with his nephew Rene, brother Marcel, and friends.
He married Alma 27 years ago. He loved her dearly. The two were married in Hawaii. They enjoyed trips to Europe, singing together in choruses, walking, time with friends and being in each other’s company. Alma always took great care of Bob, but is to be commended for the care she provided later in his life as he struggled with dementia.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Morin of Auburn; one son, Anthony Morin of Auburn; four daughters, Reinette Kent and husband, Chris of Auburn, Celeste Delcourt, and husband, Remi of Lewiston, Gabrielle Cote of Lewiston, and Angela Peck and husband, Brad of Auburn; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Morin and wife, Joan of Lewiston; and former wife Rachelle Michel of Lewiston. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arsene and Yvonne Morin; two brothers, Marcel Morin and Fr. Maurice Morin; and his sister, Jeannine Chabot.
