Auburn Quentin N. Hall 92 of Auburn died Sunday May 7, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born January 19, 1931 in Bethel, Maine a son of Son of Norman H. Hall and Lettie McLellan Hall. He attended secondary schools in Bethel and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel in 1948.
He then attended Bates College Class of 1952.
Married Gloria Winton of Livermore Falls April 4, 1953, who he met while she was a nurse at Central Maine General Hospital (now known as Central Maine medical Center) in Lewiston, Maine.
Their twin daughters Karen and Sharon were born four years later.
He worked for a short time for N Sedgley & Sons, then a Beauty & Barber Supply Company. In June 1953 he became employed by Hall & Knight Hardware Company, a distributor of Hardware Plumbing, Electrical and Industrial Supplies. In February 1957 he became a salesman covering the southern part of Maine and a few areas of New Hampshire. In 1975 he became Sales Manager, eventually becoming Vice President of Sales. His name being Hall, customers believed at first he was one of the owner’s family which was not the case. He was in fact the first person to be an officer of the company that was not a family member. He retired from Hall & Knight in February 1996. Before retiring he passed the Maine Real Estate Course feeling it might be a good part-time venture which almost immediately turned into full-time work. He continued real estate with ERA Worden Company until 2013.
He was a great sports enthusiast, always rooting for the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots. He and Gloria enjoyed several years watching their four grandsons play sports which even meant going with the hockey teams as far as Chicago, Illinois and Coral Springs, Florida. While in Chicago he and Gloria celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with the hockey team. As a young man he worked as caddie master at Bethel Country Club and always loved a good round of golf. He had a great love of playing cribbage with his close buddies throughout the years, most recently Gerry Laplante and Jim Betsch.
Quent and Gloria enjoyed camping when the family was growing up and had a special group of friends that were together at campgrounds weekends during the summer. He and Gloria travelled to Hawaii, Alaska, the Grand Canyon, Branson Missouri, and the West coast from California to Washington State.
He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn. During the years he had served on many of the Committees, as a Trustee and at one time serving as Lay Leader. He also was a member of the church choir for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Karen (Hall) Partridge and husband Alden (Pat) Partridge, daughter Sharon (Hall) Labonte and husband Paul; grandchildren Christopher Shaw and wife Whitney; grandson Bryan Shaw and fiancé Rita Vye; grandson Travis Labonte and wife Sarah; Grandson Cameron Labonte.
